How to Choose a Reliable China Sourcing Agent in 2026

Why Agent Selection Matters
A good sourcing agent saves you months of factory research, protects you from scams, and negotiates better prices. A bad one costs you money, time, and reputation with your customers.
This guide walks through the seven things to verify before signing any contract.
1. Business Verification
Ask for a copy of their Chinese business license (营业执照) and their unified social credit code. Verify on the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.
2. Past Client References
A trustworthy agent will provide 2–3 past client contacts. Speak to them. Did the agent deliver on time? Were there hidden fees? How were quality issues handled?
3. On-the-Ground Presence
Your agent should be physically near the factories they work with. A Shenzhen agent sourcing electronics makes sense; a Shenzhen agent sourcing toys from Chenghai does not.
4. Fee Structure Transparency
Most agents charge 3–8% of order value. Anything outside that range deserves scrutiny. Get the fee structure in writing before any payment.
5. Quality Control Process
Ask how they handle QC. Pre-production samples? Mid-production? Pre-shipment? A serious agent has a documented process.
6. Communication Cadence
How often will they update you? Daily? Weekly? Only when there's a problem? Set expectations early.
7. Dispute Resolution
What happens if a factory ships defective goods? Who absorbs the cost? Spell this out in your contract.
